Decades before there was A NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS or THE CORPSE BRIDE, there was a little film from the makers of RUDOLPH (and many of the other beloved Christmas specials) called MAD MONSTER PARTY, which Tim Burton cites as the inspiration for those films. Although the credits listed a soundtrack release of the jazzy music from the film, it was three decades before the soundtrack saw the light of day. Now it's out of print and subject to heavy price gouging. I'm shocked that the title tune didn't show up on anyone's Halloween blog compilation this year... A quasi-prequel from the same people, but utilizing traditional animation, called MAD MAD MAD MONSTERS began airing on TV a few years later, but it wasn't a musical (certainly worth a look -- it's had numerous VHS releases, but has yet to surface on DVD). If you're familiar with the MONSTER PARTY, all of the music should be instantly familiar... Here's the trailer:

01. The Baron
02. Mad Monster Party - Ethel Ennis
03. Waltz for a Witch
04. Cocktails
05. The Bash
06. You're Different - Phyllis Diller
07. Jungle Madness
08. Our Time to Shine - Gail Garnett
09. Mad Monster Party (instrumental)
10. The Mummy
11. One Step Ahead - Boris Karloff
12. The Baron Into Battle/Transylvania, All Hail/Pursuit/Requiem for a Loser
13. Never Was a Love Like Mine - Gail Garnett
14. Finale

Man... I just discovered your blog and I LOVE it. You have so many out of print soundtracks for movies that I love and grew up on. I don't want to be a pain, but is there any chance of getting Mad Monster Party re-uploaded?
Try it again, Gene. I re-upped it for ya. ;)
You are so totally my hero!
Despite common belief, there WAS an LP pressed back in the day.... I should know, they had it for sale at Footlight Records in NYC for about 30 bucks, pretty good if you ask me. Didn't buy it, but now I wish I did, cuz no one believes it exists!
Love this blog, and vinnie BTW.
Download no longer available :/
